Hi! Thanks for stopping by. :)
You may have found all the answers you’re looking for already on my Services or Edited Titles pages, but here are some other fun details you may want to know if you’re thinking of working with me.
I have more than fifteen years of editorial experience (almost twenty if you want to count editing my college newspaper almost two decades ago!), and my authors include Grammy Award winners, James Beard Award winners, Gourmand Award winners, IPPY Award winners, television personalities, movie stars, rock stars, CEOs, attorneys, business coaches, restauranteurs, and . . . maybe you?
Over the years, I have edited books . . .
In educational publishing . . .
I spent three years as a content developer and editor for an educational book production company. I wrote test prep materials, textbooks, course materials, library materials, database materials, and I even drew some maps. My work during that time period was published in For Dummies books, Cram Plan books, and by Cengage Learning, among others.
In traditional publishing . . .
I was on the editorial staff of Skyhorse Publishing, a New York City–based independent publishing company, for twelve years. I started with the company as an intern in 2012, was hired full-time three weeks later as an editorial assistant to the publisher, and worked my way up to a senior acquisitions editor of cooking and lifestyle titles as well as lead editor for the children’s imprint, Sky Pony Press. Skyhorse is a smaller house, so I was involved in every single part of the publishing process, from reviewing submissions and negotiating contracts to consulting on cover design, creating marketing and A+ materials, and presenting titles at sales conferences—and you can’t forget the editing, either! Fiction, nonfiction. Adult, children’s. Text-based, illustrated, or photo heavy. You name it, I’ve probably worked on it. I was on the receiving end of many (many, many) queries in this role every single day. At last count, I’d edited more than 500 titles for Skyhorse in my tenure there.
& As owner of Nicole Frail Edits.
Which leads me to why you’re probably here: I have been offering editorial services via Nicole Frail Edits to private clients (querying authors and independent authors) since 2015 and, in the summer of 2024, I decided to dedicate all of my time to my clients and NFE. What started as a short list of authors who knew they wanted to self-publish and just needed a bit of editorial work before uploading in the early days of KDP has developed into a long roster of truly wonderful and hardworking clients who somehow (impressively!) pump out multiple high-quality books a year—and working with them has become one of the most rewarding and meaningful parts of my life. Through NFE, I am a book coach and a cheerleader, a shoulder and a sounding board. I offer all levels of critique and editing, because I have been performing all levels of critique and editing my whole career. I can easily draw on my background in traditional publishing to either assist you in (1) starting your querying process, (2) putting out the strongest book possible on your own, or (3) deciding if traditional or indie (or hybrid!) is the right path for you.

Outside of work, my one true love is coffee: hot or iced, just please not lukewarm. My other true loves are my husband (and high school sweetheart!), Matthew, and our three little boys (Cooper, Travis, and Eli). I enjoy binge-watching medical and police procedural/fire dramas (The Good Doctor, The Rookie, Station 19) as well as singing and dancing competitions (The Voice, Dancing with the Stars), playing tabletop board games (Flamecraft, Wingspan, Everdell), and, after too long of a slump, reading (a little bit of everything, though 99% fiction). We have two tuxedo cats, Onyx and Luna, who usually make their way into my bookstagram photos at least once a week.
Before moving to New York way back when (okay, not that long ago—it was 2012), I solved word puzzles, folded tiny baby clothes, supervised book sellers (Waldenbooks, I miss you every day), and checked groceries. I graduated from Wilkes University with a bachelor's degree in communications/journalism and minors in English, psychology, and sociology. I now live in northeastern Pennsylvania near family and some of my oldest and dearest friends.
